Desert Brass
Charles Musgrave is an accomplished and popular Northwest Valley conductor. He engages his audiences with interesting anecdotes and historical narratives relating to his musical selections. His entertaining style is always well received by audiences of all ages. He has conducted the Desert Brass since 2000 and has been Director of Music at Willowbrook Church, the Conductor and now Assistant Conductor of the Sun City Concert Band. Charles graduated from the Shurtleff College of Music and completed his Masters Degree at the University of Illinois and Doctorate studies at the University of Colorado. He was born in Alton, Illinois where he taught music and was Director of Development at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. He played French horn with the St. Louis Philharmonic and the Chautauqua Symphony and currently plays with the Sun Cities Chamber Orchestra. Our Musical Director
DDale Gleason is a relative newcomer to the West Valley but has made his presence known in a number of musical groups. In 2015 he was selected to join the trombone section of the Arizona Winds, directed by Richard Shelton. Shortly afterward he joined the Sun City Concert Band also on trombone. Additionally he plays trombone in the Arizona Swing Kings, the Lord of Life Big Band, trumpet in the West Vally Wind Ensemble, and tuba in the Surprise"Pops" Band. Dan Reed is a popular and well sought after soloist in the West Valley. His experience is expansive displaying playing styles including Big Band, classical,jazz, spicy Latin music and Dixieland. Dan not only plays cornet with the Desert Brass but is also a frequent soloist with them.

Our Associate Conductor  Dale earned his music degrees from the University of Washington and Western Washington University. Though retired, Dale taught all levels of bands for 12 years ending in 1977. He then became instructor of Jazz Band , professor of Music Theory and Composition and Music Program Chairman at Bellevue Community College, retiring in 2008. In the Spring of 2017, Dale directed his march "Waverly Way" with the Sun City Concert Band, and continued on as Associate Conductor to interim conductor, Charles Musgrave. He now serves as Conductor of the Sun City Concert Band and Associate Conductor and English Baritone player in the Desert Brass.
